There are a number of reasons why your refrigerator may not be cooling properly. But the first step to proper fridge repairs is to determine exactly what is wrong. A number of basic diagnostic procedures will need to be run in order to pinpoint the problem and then fix the issue you’re facing prior to calling in a technician to take a look. That said these preliminary procedures are even used by professional repairmen to determine if the problem is an easy fix prior to going on to more complicated procedures. Below we will quickly run through these preliminary tests.
Check the refrigerator’s power
The easiest way to check if your refrigerator is getting power is to see if the light is turning on. Also you can put your hand on the grill on the back of your unit to feel if it’s warm. If it’s warm on the back and the light is burning then you don’t have a power issue. But if the power is off, then you need to run through these troubleshooting steps:
Check if the power cord has been plugged in refrigerator repair los angeles. If it’s not then plug it in correctly.
Is the socket working as it should? The socket can be tested using a tester or multi-meter. You can also plug in something else into the socket to see if that works. If the socket is not working then that is where your problem lies, if not then you need to move on.
Some refrigerators have a power switch which has to be turned on. The switch can at times get turn off by mistake when you are moving stuff around.
The refrigerator door needs to be closed
The refrigerator door needs to obviously remain closed at all times in order for the cold air not to escape the confines of the unit. Also the fridge should be on a flat surface so that the door can be properly closed. Always check that you don’t have something in the unit which may be preventing the door from closing completely. If the problem is not fixed at times it can lead to the gas leaking and requiring extensive fridge repairs.
Defrost the refrigerator
If you see that ice is accumulating inside of your fridge which may be hindering its performance then defrost it. The idea is to turn your fridge off and keep it off until all the ice melts. Then turn it back on once you have cleaned it thoroughly.
Hear if the fan in the fridge is working
Put your ears to the bottom of the fridge to hear if the fans in the unit are working. There should be 2 fans that you are able to distinctly hear running i.e. one inside while the other is located at the bottom. If these fans are not working or one of them is not working then check if something may be blocking it. But if there is nothing blocking it then there could be another cause for it not working and so you will need to call a fridge repairs specialist who will replace the fans.
